The oldest religious rituals and 5000-year-old winepress unearthed in Israel

EZNews - Nov 7th, 2025

As the Israel-Palestine conflict continues endlessly, near the foot of Tel Megiddo, the earliest winepress ever found in Israel, along with the evidence of Canaanite religious practices, has been discovered in salvage excavations.

The wine press, words from the officials, was evidence that a Canaanite religious group existed at the site thousands of years ago. The Canaanites were ancient indigenous people who inhabited the area known as Canaan, located in the Levant along the eastern Mediterranean Sea, from Greece to western Europe.

"Until now, indirect evidence indicated that wine could have been produced 5,000 years ago, but we did not have conclusive proof of this - a 'smoking gun' that would clearly show when this happened in our area," they said in a statement. "This wine press finally provides new and clear evidence that early wine production actually took place here."
