"There were people who have lived in the US for years and years, never causing problems, who have been deeply affected by Trump's hardline policy on migration."Pope Leo called for 'deep reflection' on the mass deportation of migrants who were deeply affected by a controversial policy, responding to TV cameras outside his papal retreat at Castel Gandolfo.
While speaking briefly with the reporters, the Pope was also asked about the detention facility in Chicago, denying entry on November 1st, towards an auxiliary bishop and a delegation of clergy, religious sisters, and laity, who wanted to bring communion to Catholics detained there. Pope Leo prefaced his remarks by noting how, at his mass at a Rome cemetery, Nov. 1, the Gospel reading was from Matthew 25 with its litany of feeding the hungry, welcoming the stranger, and clothing the naked. The lord says, "Whatever you did for one of these least brothers of mine, you did for me."
"I think this is an issue that matters to him personally," Professor Anna Rowlands of Durham University said." He lived in Countries affected by these policies, and welcomed himself as a migrant.
