Conflict in Libya facilitated transnational expansion of migrant smuggling and trafficking
This is an article from chathamhouse, explainning how Migrant smuggling and trafficking has flourished through Libya since its 2011 conflict. As a ordinary highs school student, I obviously has no knowledge supporting me write article like this.
Total of three phases, in the first phases, the Libyan conflict led to the emergence of armed factions and an economy dominated by violence that has fostered migrant smuggling and trafficking. Increased flows of refugees, migrants and asylum seekers through Libya further expanded the conflict economy.
In the second phase, European policymakers sought to reduce irregular arrivals from Libya, but rather rein in Libyan armed group, they forged partnerships for necessity. And in neighbor Niger, European leaders put pressure to criminalize the moverment of people. These act by European policymakers increased the perils faced by those on the move, the number of immigrants reaching Europe had declined, though the majority keeped moving.
In the last and current phase, numbers of people reaching Europe rebounded, but not yet reaching the height of 2026. A transactional pattern has emeerged in hich Libyan groups seek political and financial support from European Policymakers, allowing smuggling to continue, but have done nothing to tackle to real factor.

Europe must take the gamble and engage with China on Ukraine
European leaders on standing at the crossroad of history, to survive in great power competition, China's engagement would be a strong leverage over Russia and Trump's Administration.
After US President Trump's administration reaches out to Russia, with the suspension of Europe military aid, European leader has faced a severe challange of surviving in great power politics. They are running out of good options, but they do have a short window remaining. Europe country should actively engage China to US and Russia on the table, even though China have been supporting the invasion to Ukraine. Indeed engaging with China carries risks but it's not necessary to broader alignment.
China have voiced willingness to develop peace plan and present at the talk, would be acting as a good leverage over Russia and as a counter to US.
Europe, a vital partner for US to counter China's growth, both economically and technological competition. LEverage this point to US to gain support on Europe's defense industrial base. If US maintain it's willingness of withdraw from Europe, bring in China can reduce Putin's willingness of disturbing Peace deal made by Europe, buying time for rearmament.
